JAMMU: Dikshant today guided Rising Stars Udhampur to a fine five wickets win against Col. R N Chopra Cricket Academy in the inaugural match of the Dr Vidushi Kapahi Memorial (50 overs) Cricket League got underway at Country Cricket Academy grounds, near Gharota here.
Earlier, Chopra Academy won the toss and elected to bat first they made 146 runs losing all their wickets in 39 overs. Abhay Tandon with 47 and Jugjab with 27 runs remained top scorers. From Rising Star Udhampur, Ashank and Mukul shared three wickets while Sachin bagged two and Dikshant secured one.
In reply, Rising Stars played sensibly and accomplished the target in 31 overs for the loss of five wickets. Dikshant played brilliant innings of 57 runs to be adjudged man of the match. Abhay Tandon from Col. RN Chopra Cricket Academy with two wickets was pick of the bowlers. Shugal Sharma and Sahil Sharma were the umpires.
Earlier, the event was declared open by Joint secretary J&K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma, who was chief guest. Speaking to the young cricketers, he laid emphasis on hardwork and single minded approach to achieve the desired goals in life.
Chairman Country Cricket Academy, Vivek Sharma has initiated this tournament in collaboration with Project Model Higher Secondary School Janipur to provide budding cricketers the experience of the conditions of full scale and size cricket ground and grassy turf that has been maintained at Country Cricket Ground.
