Dr Karan Singh’s address, corporate interactions, academic insights, Yoga Sessions define second day of IIM Jammu

JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu on Tuesday commenced its five-day Orientation Program for various incoming batches at its campus in Jagti.
The event welcomed the 5th Batch of Ph.D. (2024-28), the 3rd Batch of Ph.D. (WP) (2024-28), the 9th Batch of MBA (2024-26), the 3rd Batch of MBA (HA&HM) (2024-26), and the 4th Batch of EMBA (2024-26).
The day began with a yoga session themed “Maximize Happiness and Mindfulness,” led by Yoga Guru Sahil Mehra and coordinated by Team Anandam, setting a positive tone for the academic journey ahead.
This was followed by an insightful session on the “Knowledge Management Center” by Shailesh Lohiya, Librarian at IIM Jammu, emphasizing the utilization of the institute’s advanced library resources.
Further, sessions on ‘ERP & IT Support System’ were conducted by Asif Khan and Avinash, focusing on enhancing technological proficiency. The morning continued with outbound activities facilitated by the Office of Student Affairs, promoting team building among the new students.
In the afternoon, Deepali Jetley, Chief People Officer at Marengo Asia Hospitals, delivered a talk on “Unlocking Your Potential in the Corporate World,” highlighting continuous learning and curiosity. This session was coordinated by Dr. Ateeque Shaikh, Chairperson and Associate Professor, IIM Jammu, and Dr. Prateek Maheshwari, Assistant Professor, IIM Jammu.
Following this, Sourav Dasgupta from Allcargo Logistics Ltd. discussed “RoI: Academics to Corporate,” providing insights on academic investments and corporate success. The session was coordinated by Kapil Manohar Gumte, Assistant Professor, IIM Jammu, and Dr. Bijoy Rakshit, Assistant Professor, IIM Jammu.
A significant highlight was an address and online interaction with Royal Majesty Padma Vibhushan Maharaja Dr. Karan Singh, who spoke on “The Many Dimensions of Management.” He emphasized sustainability, mental well-being, and the role of technology in modern management, blending traditional wisdom with contemporary challenges. He emphasized the vital role of protecting natural resources to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience, crucial for future generations. He discussed the adverse impacts of deforestation, explaining how it disrupts ecosystems and contributes to climate change, which in turn affects economic stability.
Stressing the importance of these practices, he explained how they foster physical health and mental clarity, essential for effective management.
He underscored the need for maintaining a positive mindset, warning against anger and negativity.
He emphasized the evolving role of artificial intelligence in modern management and its potential to drive significant advancements.
He highlighted the cooperative effort needed to build a new India, addressing crucial issues such as corruption, colonialism, and casteism for a better future.
He was welcomed by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu. His session was coordinated by Professor Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu.
Additional sessions covered topics such as “Finance & Accounts Services” by Rajat Jain and “Upkeep of Infrastructure and Facilities on the Campus” by Er. Shyam Dhar Tiwari. Dr. Gaana J. concluded the day with insights into “International Accreditation & Ranking.” Dr. Gaana J., Assistant Professor, IIM Jammu delivered the final session of the day, focusing on “International Accreditation & Ranking.”
The day culminated with cultural programs by the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, enriching the students’ experience of regional diversity.
The Orientation Program underscored IIM Jammu’s commitment to holistic student development and anticipation of their future contributions.
