JAMMU: Dr. Beetika Kohli has brought laurels to the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, by bagging the Best Poster Presentation Award 2016 in the field of Plant Sciences during the recently concluded 103rd session of the Indian Science Congress held at University of Mysore, Mysuru from 3rd to 7th January , 2016.
The award carries a certificate along with a cash prize of Rs.5, 000. The presentation of Dr. Beetika, daughter of Saroj and Nirmal Kohli and wife of Vikas Sharma, was based on her research findings on ‘Causes and consequences of meiotic behaviour in the male sex track of allium roylei stern at the gametophytic and iso-enzymatic levels.’
Dr. Beetika had carried out her research in the Department of Botany, University of Jammu under the supervision of Prof. R.N Gohil and Dr. Veenu Kaul.
While congratulating Dr. Beetika for her outstanding performance in the prestigious mega Science Congress event, Prof R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu, showed his utmost satisfaction and desired that more and more number of research students of the University of Jammu should participate in such international scientific events which are attended by a galaxy of Noble laureates in various fields of science and other accomplished researchers from all across the globe.
“This would be an opportunity for our young researchers to interact with the world scientific community to gain better ideas and incorporate those in the research for welfare of humanity,” Prof. Sharma opined. On the occasion, Prof. Keshav Sharma, the Registrar, University of Jammu and Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Head, Department of Botany, University of Jammu were also present.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Indian Science Congress is a mega annual event organised by the Indian Science Congress Association and is inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India every year.
