Dr Arvind from Jammu attends Heart Lung Transplant workshop at PSGIMS Coimbtore

JAMMU: Keeping in pace with increasing number of patients requiring heart lung transplant in the country, a first of its kind live hands-on workshop Thohart 2022 was organized at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences (PSGIMS) , Coimbtore.
Dr Arvind Kohli, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon (CVS) from Government Medical College Jammu was one of the ten participants in this workshop.
Dr Arvind chaired the session dedicated to installation of mechanical circulatory support like peripheral and central ECMO, which is frequently required in pre and post-cardiac transplant patients and the New Impella device and HeartMate.
The institute has a state of art skill lab and animal lab facility within house cardiopulmonar infrastructure. Dr K.R Balakrishnan, a leading Cardiac Transplant Surgeon of the country who along with his team has conducted 500 cardiac tranplants, was the course director and Dr PR Murugesan, HOD CTVS PSGIMS, was the course cordinator.
Ten CTV surgeons from all over India were registered for this workshop. Apart from thorough understanding of preparation of a donor and recipient for heart and lung transplant, the workshop focussed on hands-on live surgical Donor heart and lung harvesting, preparing the recipient heart for taking up the transplant and finally the transplant on cardiopulmonary bypass.
