JAMMU: The daughter of the soil, Dr. Alka Sharma, has been conferred with the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Rashtriya Seva Puraskar in recognition of her outstanding contributions to society by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha in the presence of Election Commissioner B. R. Sharma, (Retd.), Lt. Gen. Rakesh Sharma and Padma Shri Dr. S. P. Verma.
This award celebrates unwavering commitment to serving the community and upholding the principles espoused by Mahatma Gandhi.
The Mahatma Gandhi Rashtriya Seva Puraskar has been bestowed upon for her exceptional efforts in uplifting the status of women and also for creating awareness amongst them at gross root level regarding burning social issues.
This accolade reflects dedication to promoting social welfare, fostering inclusivity, and creating a positive impact on the lives of others.

It is pertinent to mention here that she received Republic Day-2024 Commentator trophy a day before in the evening from Lt. Governor of UT of J&K.
Later in the evening, she was honoured by former Chief Minister of J&K, Ghulam Nabi Azad also by presenting portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at his residence here.
Mahatma Gandhi Rashtriya Seva Puraskar committee also conferred award to Ishtiaq Sherwani (Kin of Martyr Shri Maqbool Wani), Sumaya Shanker Bose kin of Netaji’s Subash Chandra Bose (fourth generation), Veena Behan, disciple of Bharat Ratna Vinoba Bhave ,Pooja Saxena (granddaughter of freedom fighter Master Nand Lal), Krishna Kanta and Advocate Ram Mohan Rai, disciple of Padma Vibhushan Dr. Nirmala Deshpande , Azar Afzal Rathar, Abida War, Malik Noor-ul-Amin, Dr. Parvinder Kaur, Abdul Hafeez Wani, Soba Ram, Sumi Sahi Seth, Rameshwar Mengi, Manish Joshi and Sanjeev Sharma.
