JAMMU: In light of the Prime Minister’s recent talk ‘on drugs’ on popular radio series ‘Man Ki Baat’, Delhi Public School (DPS) Jammu in collaboration with Jammu Zonal Unit of Narcotics Control Bureau, a national nodal agency of Government of India, organised a drug awareness programme.
On the occasion, Satish Kumar Sharma, an Intelligence Officer of the Narcotics Department who was the Resource Person gave a presentation on the menace of drug abuse to the students of classes XI and XII.
Targeting the highly susceptible adolescent group, Satish Sharma gave a call for help to de addict at least one person in one’s lifetime and thereby saving several other lives. He stated that it is very easy to adopt any bad habit but it is very difficult to stop it.
It is like a Chakraview where Abhimanyu of Mahabharata could enter easily but could not come out of it. So one should be very careful about the menace of drug abuse and keep himself away from this curse.
Sharma also cited numerous real life examples of drug addiction. Some of the common causes and symptoms of drug abuse are peer pressure, curiosity, medicinal abuse, red eyes, unabated cough, needle marks, etc. The details on the source and origin of drugs, the cost of addiction on society, ameliorative steps in critical situations were the eyes openers for the audience.
Appreciating the initiative taken by Satish Sharma, Headmistress, DPS Jammu Ruchi Chabra presented him a memento on behalf of the school management and expressed hope that the torch once lit will continue to spread its light of awareness among the society through the young students.
Additional Director/Principal Dr. (Mrs.) D. Joseph expressed her thanks to Satish Sharma for making the students aware about the menace of drug abuse.
The vote of thanks was presented by Umesh Shrama, Coordinator Senior Wing.
