Double standards of Army on Jammu Airport security

STATE TIMES NEWS

JAMMU: In brazen violation of standing rules and norms, a massive banquet hall is under construction in front of the Jammu Airport entrance, jeopardizing the security of the country’s most sensitive airport and Indian Air Force Station.
The work on the Amantran Banquet, a massive building complex is fast apace, compromising the security of the strategically sensitive installations.
The local residents, mostly the refugees, are not being given permissions by Cantonment Board and the adjoining Army installations to construct even water tanks on rooftops of their residential dwellings while Amantran Banquet owner is constructing a huge new building, at 50 -feet distance in front of main entrance gate of the Jammu Airport.
Locals have been demanding a thorough probe, as numerous complaints to all the concerned have not evoked any response. Corrupt system has compromised the security threats, they said, asking who has given permission for the construction. They believe that a CBI probe alone can fix the responsibility of the officers who are keeping their eyes closed and allowing construction for reasons best known to them.
“We appeal to the LG administration to intervene and book all those involved in this massive construction scam and seal the premises. No permission has been granted for the construction of Aamantran Banquet hall”, some residents pleaded.
Even numerous complaints have been sent to the Director Airport Authority of India besides Jammu Airport but all in vain. Director AAI has admitted in a RTI reply that the Aamantran Banquet is at the distance of 18.5 meters from the Jammu Airport gate but remained mute about any action taken, for obvious reasons.
According to central government guidelines and subsequent notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu, duly publicized in newspapers in 2017, the construction of houses, or any other structures within a distance of 100 meters from the boundary wall of Air Force Station Satwari, Air-Force Station Kaluchak and Civil Airport, Jammu are banned with immediate effect as per Government of India, Ministry of Defence SRO Number 12, dated 14th February, 2007.
Now, after going through the DC’s notification and AAI Directors reply, it seems that everyone concerned is hand-in-glove in this illegal massive construction of Aamantran Banquet, situated exactly in front of the main entrance gate of Jammu Airport, which is one of the most sensitive airports of the country.
Here it is relevant to mention that this huge illegal construction is going on at Khasra number 309, 310, 311, which is Bagh Nehri and State land, where not even normal construction can be taken or allowed what to say of permission by the concerned. In nutshell, the construction is being carried out illegally without approval of any agency, violating all norms, in front of Jammu Airport.
