New Delhi: Congress has cautioned the Centre against falling prey to “self-complacency” in Jammu and Kashmir where militants on Friday carried out multiple attacks which left several dead, including 11 security personnel.
Congress spokesperson Salman Khurshid said that the killing of security personnel was “extremely painful and a tragic reminder that complacency should not be permitted”.
“We will not score points but will expect the government to stand up a little bit and show the grit and determination which we have been only hearing about,” he said.
Khurshid further said, “It is sad that… There is a question mark on the security in Jammu and Kashmir. There should be no compromise on the security of security personnel as well as the common man at the altar of self-complacency, self congratulation and political expediency.”
Militants today struck in a big way in Jammu and Kashmir, storming an Army camp in Uri in Baramulla district and following it up with multiple attacks in Srinagar, Tral and Shopian.
Apart from the security personnel, a top LeT commander and seven militants were also killed in the incidents which left two civilians dead.
Uri is about 100-km northwest of Srinagar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is due to campaign there on Monday. (PTI)
