JAMMU: Police on Tuesday held a domestic help and his associate in theft case, and recovered stolen amount worth Rs 5,31,000 from their possession.
Jammu Police achieved major success under the leadership of SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
According to police, a theft report was lodged in Police Station Channi Himmat by one Dr. Abhinav on Monday evening that cash was stolen from his house at Channi Himmat, when no one was inside. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.124/2017 under Sections 454 and 380 RPC was registered.
Divulging the details, SP South Sandeep Chaudhary stated that special efforts were made to utilize the golden hours to identify the thief as soon as possible. “During the CCTV analysis, one person namely Lovely, son of Jaspal Singh, resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab was identified with the help of family. He used to work as domestic help in the same house recently. Subsequently, teams led by SDPO East Arun Jamwal and SHO Channi Himmat Sajjad Mir were formed to nab the culprit. One team led by SI Balram Sharma was sent to Punjab immediately. This team nabbed the accused along with his associate namely Daniyal, son of Boota Masih, resident of Gurdaspur and also recovered Rs.5,31,000 from their possession”, SP South Sandeep Chaudhary said.
He appealed to the general public to install CCTV cameras in their Mohallas, shops and main roads. CCTV cameras play key role in identifying culprits and become great deterrence to wrong-doers, he maintained.
He also emphasised on the importance of tenant and servant verification through nearest police stations. “Proper background checks and verifications discourage criminals from implementing their designs. An aware citizen is definitely a safe citizen”, he asserted. He appealed to people to inform the nearest police station whenever they leave their houses unattended for long durations especially during holidays. “As the wedding season is approaching, such awareness on part of people can help police prevent thefts and burglaries”, he said. It becomes pertinent to mention here that families leave their houses unattended during wedding seasons. Awareness on part of people as in keeping their precious jewelry in bank lockers and not keeping too much cash at home can keep people’s property safe.
