JAMMU: With a view to raise awareness and instill the importance of Human Rights in the minds of the people, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jammu, under the Aegis of UT of J&K Legal Services Authority, on Thursday celebrated the World Human Rights Day under the Chairmanship of Sanjeev Gupta, the Chairman DLSA (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Jammu.
The programme was attended by Judicial Officers, Public Prosecutors, Addl. Public Prosecutors, Assistant Public Prosecutors, Advocates/Retainer Lawyers, law students, Staff and Para Legal Volunteers.
Sanjeev Gupta, Chairman, DLSA, Jammu outlined the aims, objectives and relevance of celebrating the day. He threw light on the objectives of celebrating the Human Rights Day specially the Rights of Women and to eradicate the poverty from the life of Human Being and help them in getting the well being life. Every individual deserves to enjoy the basic Human Rights, he said and advised the gathering not to violate these Rights and encourage vulnerable groups of people like women, minorities, youth, and indigenous people to take part in such type of events. Addressing the gathering, Naushad Ahmed Khan, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Jammu briefed about the types of Human Rights. He said Human Rights are moral principles/norms and fundamental Rights that illustrate certain standards of Human behavior and to which every individual is inherently entitled just because he or she is a Human being.
Joyti Sharma, Master trainer, SLSA said that Human Rights Day is observed worldwide. She said Human Rights are protected by various laws, but are still violated by certain groups of people of the society. She added that many institutions have been constituted by government and non-government organizations to monitor and protect these rights.
Deepali Arora, Panel Lawyer DLSA Jammu, presented the formal vote of thanks. Besides this the day was also celebrated by Tehsil Legal Services Committees, Akhnoor, Bishnah, and R.S Pura in their respective jurisdiction.
