Div Com visits Poonch to assess damage

POONCH: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Shantmanu and Inspector General of Police, Jammu Range, Rajesh Kumar visited district Poonch to assess damage caused by the flash flood and review the post-flood relief and rehabilitation work of the district administration.
The Div Com and IGP along with DDC Poonch and SSP Poonch straight away went to see the damage to Sher-e-Kashmir and Darungali Nala Bridges. Thereafter Shantmanu chaired a meeting of officers at the conference hall of the DC office complex wherein, in a power point presentation, the District Development Commissioner, M.H Malik presented the havoc caused by the flash flood particularly the damage to the public infrastructure like roads, bridges, transmission lines, water supply lines, schools etc. and the damage caused to the private property both due to flood and landslides. He also highlighted the time and cost required to repair and reconstruct the damaged infrastructure. He particularly emphasised upon the shortage of food supply and difficulties in immediate restoration of the water and power supply.
Shantmanu complimented the district administration for proactively and efficiently handling the crisis. He asked the Deputy Commissioner to take daily review of the post flood relief and rehabilitation process. He asked the SE, I and FC to immediately work on the flood control project report. He also directed XEN PHE to ensure clean drinking water by supplying properly chlorinated water. Shantamnu instructed Chief Engineer, PWD to make the Mughal Road functional as all the civil supplies to Kashmir valley would be transported via this route as Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been damaged at several places. He said that the people of Poonch particularly the religious groups need to be congratulated for providing help to the displaced persons and displaying exemplary unity in this hour of crisis.
IGP also asked the officers restore the confidence of the people and defeat the nefarious designs of the anti social elements and rumour mongers.
