Div Com reviews relief, rehabilitation measures


JAMMU: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Shantmanu, on Sunday convened a meeting to review the relief operation and restoration works being executed in the wake of recent floods and incessant rains.
He directed the concerned departments to step up efforts for early restoration of essential services besides prioritising repair of vital utilities.
IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar, DDC Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu, SSP Jammu Uttam Chand, SSP PCR J.S Johar, SSP Traffic Pawan Parihar, Chief Engineer PHE Sushil Aima, Chief Engineer PDD Shenaz Goni, Chief Engineer R&B A.H Sheikh, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control H.C Jerath, Director CAPD G.S Chib, Director School Education H.R Pakhroo and Joint Commissioner JMC Kapil Sharma attended the meeting.
Divisional Commissioner stressed on coordination among various departments to ensure that the relief material is distributed among the affected population in time. He directed the Health Department to ensure that adequate medical staff and medicines are kept available besides keeping a check on water borne diseases.
The DC apprised the meeting that all possible relief and rehabilitation measures are being taken on war footing besides the affected people in far off areas are being provided relief material through air services. He also informed that the arrangements for issue of one month free ration to the flood victims have also been made and the same would be distributed among the affected families as early as possible.
Chief Engineer R&B informed the meeting that restoration works are apace on war footing and efforts are on to restore the vital road links.
Taking review of PHE supply, it was informed that despite major damages to some of the important water supply schemes, the department will be able to restore 60 to 70 per cent of water supply in Jammu city. It was further informed that the tankers have been pressed into service to provide relief to the people.
Chief Engineer PDD informed that restoration works are on to restore power supply in all the districts.
Director CAPD said that there is adequate stock of ration available and will be dispatched to the concerned areas immediately.
