Div Com issues weather advisory, instructions to DCs

 

SRINAGAR: In view of moderate to heavy rains, thundershowers and snowfall, which may affect J&K up to September 06, 2014, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has asked all the Deputy Commissioners, Head of Departments, District Superintendents of Police to gear up their men and machinery and to be in a state of preparedness, to minimize disruption in essential services, road connectivity, restoring electric supply, water supply, healthcare services and evacuation of the people trapped in flood.
Besides, the Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Shopian, Budgam, Kulgam, Anantnag, Pulwama, Ganderbal, Leh and Kargil districts have been asked to take appropriate precautionary measures and advise the people living in flood prone areas, on the embankments of rivers and streams to shift from their houses to safer places so as to avert any untoward incident.
The Deputy Commissioners have also been asked to establish joint Control Rooms in the respective districts.
A Control room has been setup at the Police Control Room (PCR) Batamalloo, Srinagar to monitor the flood situation that has arisen due to incessant rains in the Valley for past few days.
The officers of all Engineering, Health, Housing and other concerned departments have been stationed in the control room. They are monitoring the situation and coordinating to prevent any loss of human lives and property besides, extending help to the people wherever required.

Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar undertook an extensive tour of the Srinagar city to assess the situation arisen due to incessant rains and consequent water logging in different areas of the city.
The minister directed the officers to monitor the situation on constant basis, so that the people do not face any inconvenience in view of any eventuality. He also asked the administration to ensure that the people get all the necessary essentials.
The minister also inspected the level of flood water on the Jhelum banks in the old city and directed the officers to be in the State preparedness and be vigilant in view of any eventuality so that the necessary steps can be taken at the earliest.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Taj Mohi ud Din visited the Bones and Joints Hospital, Barzullah and reviewed the steps being taken for safe stay of patients there.
The minister took stock of the functioning of each wing of the Hospital and impressed upon the Hospital administration to ensure that no inconvenience is faced by the patients there.
KUPWARA: According to the Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, in view of continuous heavy rains, there is apprehension of floods which can cause loss to human life and property, Joint Control Rooms have been set up at Kupwara, Handwara and Karnah where officers and officials are monitoring the situation to take appropriate precautionary measures.
SHOPIAN: Consequent to the incessant rains the water level in the nallahs and rivers especially in Veshu and Rambi Ara has increased to the level causing threat of flood in some areas, the District Administration has made all the efforts to save the people in such areas for which the Civil and Police Administration has been working round the clock.
The Deputy Commissioner Shopian instructed all the concerned to take immediate action wherever required so that the people do not suffer.

The migratory families comprising of 54 families residing near Rambi Ara nallah at Shopian temporarily have been shifted in a local school buildings and all the requisite facilities are being provided to them, Deputy Commissioner informed.
BUDGAM: Deputy Commissioner Budgam accompanied by a team of officers visited various flood prone areas and said that the overall situation in whole district is by and large under control. However, there are reports that flood waters have entered in various areas particularly the areas adjacent to Nallahs of Doodh Ganga, Beerwah, and Budgam canal causing some damages to bunds and paddy fields.
Today a strong flow in Beerwah Nallah washed away KM No. 10 of Beerwah/Magam road causing disruption in the traffic movement barring this there is no loss of life or serious damage to the property or crops.
The Deputy Commissioner has ordered to set up joint Flood Zonal Control Committee who will keep round the clock vigil on the flood situation.

BARAMULLA: District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, today visited several areas of Tangmarg, Kunzer, Wagoora, Pattan and Sopore tehsils. These areas include Kongamdara, Ahamadpora, Tantrypora, Malla Buzan, Agriklaan, Trikolbal, Hygam, Panzipora, Vizer and others. The District Development Commissioner inspected the areas where the situation was alarming due to the rising water levels. SSP Baramulla, Mir Suhail besides other officers and Engineers accompanied .
The DDC also directed the concerned officers to provide required blankets and essential commodities to the affected families. Keeping in view the flood situation, immediate directions were given to the concerned for closure of traffic on various bridges and routes. Tehsil Level Committees have been constituted to combat the alarming situation in the district.
