District Jammu lifts U-17 girls’ cricket tournament

KATHUA: District Jammu won the opening two matches and lifted the trophy of the inter District Division level under-17 girls’ cricket tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Sports Stadium, here on Sunday. District Kathua remained runner up by winning one match out of two.
In an inaugural match, Jammu outplayed district Kathua by ten wickets. Earlier, batting first after winning toss, Kathua made 38 runs for the loss of five wickets in 10 overs. In reply, Jammu achieved the target just in 3.4 overs without losing any wicket. Sonika of Jammu was the top scorer with 23 runs coming up in 13 deliveries with the help of four boundaries and Nancy added seven to the winning total.
After winning first match, district Jammu again thrashed district Samba by ten wickets.
Batting first, Samba could not face the bowling attack of opponent team and set a meager target of 18 runs in 10 overs which in reply easily chased by Jammu just in 2.3 overs without losing any wicket. Isha of Jammu was wrecker-in-chief, who clinched five wickets in two overs giving only two runs while Nancy Gill got three wickets.
In third and last match of the day, district Kathua defeated Samba by six runs. Kathua, batting first, set the target of 48 runs in 10 overs for the loss of nine wickets and in reply Samba could not chase the target and mange to score only 42 runs in 10 overs.
Matches were officiated by Mohan Lal Dub, Sunil Kumar, Ram Lubaya, Kulbhushan Singh and Kajal Premi. Rajesh Kumar, Darshan Kumar, Avnesh Kumar, Raghbir Puri and Rani Devi were also present.
The tournament was held under the directions of Joint Director Madan Lal.
The Organising Committee comprising DDC Kathua Ramesh Kumar as Chairman, CEO Kathua Balbir Singh Vice Chairman, DYSSO Kathua Sunil Kumar Organising Secretary and Joginder Kumar Khajuria Assistant Organising Secretary.
