SAMBA: A total of 243 special athletes took part in three days district games for disabled being organised by the Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) J and K Chapter, which concluded here on Wednesday.
The sole motive of organising games is to explore their hidden talent through the medium of sports under MYAS in collaboration of SAI, Paralympics and Association of Deaf.
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Samba, Joginder Singh who said that Special Olympics is the only platform to glorify the lives of persons with disabilities and we all must strengthen this wonderful movement to provide opportunities they are deprived off.
During the valedictory function, District Development Commissioner Samba Sheetal Nanda was the Chief Guiest who presented medals and certificates of participation to the special athletes.
About 243 special athletes and fifty six coaches participated.
Sheetal Nanda said that this mission of Special Olympics Bharat will revolutionise the society as the persons with disabilities possess great potential which needs to be explored through such missionary initiatives of Special Olympics Bharat.
“I appreciate the tireless efforts of SOB J and K for carrying this movement to every corner of the State of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
The dignitaries who also addressed during the function were Chief Education Officer/Chairman SSA O.P Bhagat, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Hqrs. Samba Virender Singh, Social Welfare Officer Mustaq Ahmed, Distt Sports Officer Sunil Kumar, Principal Arvind Koul, Vijay Slathia Zonal Physical Education Officer and Zonal Education Officer Veena Tickoo. Cultural programmes by renewed TV and Radio Artists Mahesh Koul, Suraj Sharma, Rajinder Kishore and Avtar Kour also entertained the participants.
Ashwani Jojra, State President, SOB J and K Chapter presented welcome and keynote address and Raj Kumar Sharma presented vote of thanks. Dr. Khem Raj Sharma District Coordinator SOB Samba, Jatin Chanjotra Programme Manager, Gurmeet Singh PRO SOB, Nilamber Dogra Dy. Distt Coordinator SOB Samba were also present. Krishan Singh Sambyal conducted the proceedings of programme, Kamaljeet Kour Sports Incharge conducted all events.
