Disappearance of Advocate;HC seeks fresh status report; BAJ extends strike

JAMMU: While investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Adv Raman Wazir is apace, Justice Tashi Rabstan of Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Thursday directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) Chief to file a fresh status report on Monday.
When the matter was taken-up in the court, the SIT filed a status report stating that during the course of investigation, the team revisited the spot where the vehicle was found in order to proceed with the search of the place for collection of physical evidences, as per procedure, with the help of forensic scientists in presence of respectable inhabitants of the locality.
“SIT prepared scene sketch and scanned the CCTV footage of Adv Raman Wazir’s house besides recording of CCTVs installed at NHW Lakhanpur Toll Plaza upto Srinagar and towards Mughal Road Via Rajouri”, the report stated.
The report added that the SIT comprising officers, having thorough knowledge of the entire area of Nagrota along with inputs from police sources, have activated their sources in the locality to extract clues in tracing the missing Advocate Raman Wazir.
The report stated that the list and details of history sheeters, goons and rowdies of the area was collected from the Police Station, Nagrota besides obtaining surveillance files and intelligence data in order to explore kidnapping angle as well. “The Call Detail Record (CDR) of the mobile phone and i-Pad belonging to Raman Wazir, already collected, was minutely analysed alongside the Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts and emails”, says the report adding that the data retrieving is in process to determine whether recent activity contains any clue which could be crucial to the case.
“Bank/ATM details of the Advocate Raman Wazir are being collected in order to analyze recent financial transactions, besides this brief recent history of family and relationship dynamics, the nature of personal land disputes of the missing Advocate and their status too are being explored by the SIT which would help the investigating team comprehend better the reasons behind his disappearance”, the report stated.
“Picture, details and descriptions of the Advocate Raman Wazir have been got published in print and flashed repeatedly in local electronic media besides the details have also been uploaded in the missing persons web portal of the State Crime Branch”, the SIT informed adding that similarly information has been disseminated in the various social media close group users like Facebook, Whatsapp, Wechat, live etc created to exchange information on crime incidents and for making efforts to reach out to society.
“Besides the information has also been shared with National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), New Delhi and similarly pamphlets/flyers with the photo description of the Advocate Raman Wazir are being printed for circulation for widening the area of search”, the SIT stated.
It was also submitted that in order to have a quick survey of the vicinity in order to make an estimate of the situation, aerial search operation radius through state chopper was also carried out and SIT is adopting proactive multipronged approach in tracing the missing Advocate, which are sure to deliver desired outcome within the shortest time period.
“As such indulgence of the court is being sought to grant some more reasonable time so as to conclude the exploration’, the SIT submitted.
Justice Tashi Rabstan, after going through the status report and after hearing Advocate Abhinav Sharma and Pranav Kohli, appearing for the petition whereas Senior AAG SS Nanda along with SIT Incharge Shahzad Salaria SP south, observed that keeping in view the sensitivity of matter and to maintain the confidentiality of the investigation, brief in-camera proceedings with the members of the SIT, present in the Court, were also taken up in the official Chamber.
Justice Tashi further observed that the investigation is in progress. “A request for more time is made for bringing the investigation to its logical conclusion. The request seems to be genuine. Accordingly, three days time is granted. However, head of the SIT is directed to update the Bench about the investigation on day-to-day basis and directed SIT to file fresh status report on Monday”, the Judge observed.
Meanwhile the work in the State High Court as well as District Court complex Jammu remained affected and the same shall remain suspended till August 5, 2016.
