KATHUA: Abdul Majid Butt, Director Finance, Department of Higher Education on Saturday inaugurated the District Level Inter-collegiate Kabaddi (M&W) Tournament organized by Department of Physical Education, Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua under the theme ‘My Town My Pride’.
In this tournament, nine men and four women teams from different Degree Colleges falling in district Kathua are participating.
Abdul Majid was given Guard of Honour by the students of NCC Units of GDC Kathua on his arrival.
The formal introduction of the District Inter collegiate Kabaddi (M&W) Tournament was given by the Physical Director Dr J S Soodan.
He also apprised about the achievements of Department of Physical Education and Sports in academics as well as sports.
He also explained about various requirements and sports infrastructure development of the college.
Principal GDC Kathua Prof. Seema Mir presented formal welcome to Director Finance, Higher Education Department Abdul Majid by presenting a bouquet.
In her welcome address, she has apprised about the different sporting activities carried out in the premier Institute GDC Kathua and the other developmental works carried out by the college.
She also stated that GDC Kathua has the history of leading victory in almost all the sports disciplines.
She also mentioned that Department of Physical Education has organized International Webinars in collaboration with International Organizations working under IOC.
She also appreciated the Department of Physical Education about the three days international certificate course on strength and conditioning in collaboration with IAPES Incorporated.
The Chief Guest stressed upon the need of an hour to promote sports in the society.
He also praised Principal GDC Kathua for organizing this District Level Inter-Collegiate Tournament in the Sports Discipline of Kabaddi (M&W) at GDC Kathua.
He has appreciated the efforts of Physical Director GDC Kathua for organizing this tournament in a nice way. Later Director Finance Higher Education Department, inaugurated the first match of Kabaddi in women category and congratulated both the participating teams.
Prof. Seema Mir honoured the Chief Guest in presence of senior faculty members Prof. Romila Guleria, Prof. Anirudh Sharma, Prof. Raj Kiran Convenor Sports Board, Prof. Jaswinder Sngh HOD Physics and coordinator IQAC, Prof. Rakesh Singh HOD Chemistry and Co-ordinator IGNOU and Controller Examination, Dr Anupama Arora, Dr Shub Sharma, Dr Rachna Raj, Prof. Shivani Kotwal, Dr. Amita Dua, , Dr Sumit Dubey, Dr Deepshikha, Prof Surbi and Dr. Archana Bhat.
He stated that the government has framed a policy to introduce sports in academics.
The women team of GDC Kathua defeated GCW Kathua by 15 points in the opening match. In Men’s category GDC Kathua after getting a bye from GDC Marheen defeated the Kabbadi team of GDC Billawar in straight matches by the lead of 14 points.
In the second Match between GDC Hiranagar and GDC Basohli, GDC Basohli after getting a bye from GDC Mahanpur defeated GDC Hiranagar by 13 points.
In the finals, GDC Kathua defeated GCW Kathua by 13 points in women category and clinched the final trophy. The winner and runner up trophies were given by Prof. Seema Mir.
The matches where officiated by Ambica Jasrotia, Sanjeev Singh, Omkar Singh and Sartaj Singh of GSS Barwal.
in men’s category, GDC Basohli defeated GDC Kathua by 02 points and won the final trophy. Previously, GDC Kathua Kabbadi Team defeated the Basohli and Bani Teams by 21 and 19 points respectively.
The Principal of the college applauded the students of Mens & Womens Kabaddi teams for this marvelous win in the district level tournament. She also congratulated the Director Sports Dr Jogbinder Singh Soodan for the miraculous achievement of the students of the college.
Principal was accompanied by the senior faculty members of the College including Prof. Anirudh Sharma, Dr Kailash Sharma, Dr Sumit Dubey Dr J S Soodan and Dr Kamaldeep Singh Prof. Rajesh Chalotra, Prof. Verinder Singh,Dr Amrik Singh, Dr Shamsher Singh, Dr Kamaldeep Singh, Prof. Sunita, Dr. Mohd from GDC Billawar, Sandeep Sharma, Physical Director GDC Basohli, Roshan Lal, Physical Director GCW Kathua, and Dr. Pinky Sharma.
