REASI: To explore their hidden talent through the medium of sports under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in collaboration of Sports Authority of India (SAI), Paralympics and Association of Deaf, Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) J and K organised unique sports events as district games for disabled, which concluded here on Friday. During the valedictory function, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Reasi Tahir Sajjad Bhat was the Chief Guest who said that special Olympics is the only platform to glorify the lives of persons with disabilities and we all must strengthen this wonderful movement to provide opportunities they are deprived off. SSP Reasi and all the dignitaries including District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Nadeem international cricket player of home town, Gurjit Singh, CEO Eco Adventure, Sunil Pandoh prominent citizen and Ashok Katal Lecturer Physical Education Department presented medals and certificates of participation to the special athletes.
About 239 special athletes and 59 coaches participated. Zamil Ahmad Khan conducted all proceedings.
Earlier, the event was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Reasi Ravinder Kumar, who said that special Olympics is the only platform which provides ample opportunities to the differently abled to display their potential to compete with the normal human beings through which they can shine by contrast in the field of sport.
Babu Ram Additional DC Reasi was the Guest of Honour and other dignitaries graced the inaugural ceremony were Dr L.D Bhagat CMO Reasi, Rev Fr Biju Mathew Educationist, Sr. Emmaculate Rani, Principal Presentation Convent School, Reasi, Mohsin Khan District Resource Person SSA, Bodhraj ZEO Reasi and Surinder Kumar District Cordinator SSA.
The events conducted in the ground were Boccee, Badminton, Wheel Chair Race, Softball Throw, 100 mtr race, 50 mtr race, Zig-zag Dribbling, Run and Kick and Shooting.
Ashwani Jojra State President, SOB J and K Chapter presented welcome and keynote address and Raj Kumar Sharma presented vote of thanks. Jatin Chanjotra Programme Manager, Kamaljeet Kour Sports Incharge conducted all the events on ground.
