KATHUA: District Administration, Kathua, has provided wheelchairs and other equipment at various relief camps for facilitating dignified hassle free movement of differently abled persons. The initiative was started after medical teams deputed for health checkups and camp commanders informed about the number of differently abled persons and limitations faced by such persons while moving within the camp, during the review meeting held by Deputy Commissioner.
Wheelchairs and walking sticks as well as crutches were provided at various camps. District Red Cross Society provided five wheel chairs at relief camps located in Hiranagar, Chhan Khatryan and Marheen. Assistant Director, P and S, Babu Ram Sharma, appointed as Nodal Officer for differently abled /physically handicapped persons in various relief camps by the Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, is coordinating all required facilities for these persons in migrant camps to meet their special needs.
The wheel chairs were handed over to the aggrieved migrants by SDM Hiranagar, Sohan Lal at different camps. The core group constituted by district administration for looking into special needs of women, children, elderly and differently abled among the migrant families residing in the relief camps has arranged logistic support from various sources for these persons in camps.
Chairman of Border Residents Union Bharat Bhushan expressed gratitude towards the district administration for making extraordinary efforts and being sensitive to each and every demand of various sections of migrants in the need of hour.
