JAMMU: The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena (AG) under the leadership of Ashok Gupta on Saturday held a protest in Jammu city against the shortage of electricity by burning an electric cooler. As the mercury has touched 45 degree Celsius in Jammu, electricity and water supply seems to have vanished into air, Gupta said adding that since yesterday’s heavy wind and rain there has been no electricity.
He said that every year the people of Jammu are made to suffer during summers on account of power cuts and non-supply of drinking water.
In these days, when the temperature is soaring only electricity and drinking water can provide some relief from scorching heat but unfortunately both these commodities have gone out of the reach of a common citizen, he mentioned.
“It is the duty of elected government to ensure that people are not made to suffer but in Jammu and Kashmir the government has least concern for the people,” he said. He further stated that the electricity cuts at the time of Amarnath Yatra is nothing less than a joke and it just shows that how unprepared is the PDD for such events.
A coordination committee should be formed for Jammu area to keep an eye on the needs of the people and resolve the problems reporting directly to the CM, he demanded.
He added that long curtailment of power has made the life of people miserable adding that the students are the worst sufferers.
He said that the students cannot concentrate on their studies due to curtailments in the late evening hours.
He further said that despite paying charges for the electricity and water, people are deprived of the same.
Sukhdev Singh, Rakesh, Bantu, Krishan Lal, Pardeep and Sandeep were also present.
