JAMMU: Drugs and Food Control Organistion (DFCO) on Monday served notices to the canteen owners of Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu for upgrading the infrastructure and also suspended the operation of medical establishment for a period of one month.
Amidst reports that canteens operating within the Government Medical College, Jammu are not complying with mandatory conditions of the hygienic and sanitary conditions, a team of the Food Safety Officers under the supervision of Sanjeev Kumar, Assistant Controller Food, (JMC) carried out surprise check of these establishments. At the time of inspection, no cooking process was in progress, but the overall condition of premises was not satisfactory as it was found lacking in infrastructure as also deficient in other important parameters. The owners of the canteens including Nescafe shop were served improvement notices and given reasonable time to upgrade the infrastructure.
Four surveillance samples of food articles such as Dal Masur, Mustard Oil, Chilli powder and iced tea powder have been lifted and sent to the Food Testing Laboratory for testing / analysis.
During routine checking of market, it has been observed that food business operators are not coming forward for renewal of registration/ licenses issued under FSS Act. It was impressed upon such defaulters to approach concerned empowered authorities for necessary renewal/extension of their licenses and registration without further delay to avoid any adverse action/order under the prevalent law. All the manufacturing units were also impressed upon to maintain medical certificate of all the employees working in the processing unit and keep it handy for scrutiny by any inspecting team.
Meanwhile, the Licensing Authority, Drugs Wholesale Establishment, Jammu Division, Lotika Khajuria, suspended the operation of M/S Ayran Medicine Traders, R.N Pura, Jammu, for a period of one month. The said firm was found committing certain breaches of the provision laid down under the Drug and cosmetics Act 1940 and rules 1945.
