DFCO destroys 2,844 liters of substandard milk, lifts 65 samples

JAMMU: Acting on the directions of Health Minister Bali Bhagat, the Drugs and Food Control Organization (DFCO) destroyed 2,844 liters of substandard milk and lifted 65 samples of milk and milk products from various vendors as a part of statewide weeklong special drive which began on Monday to check the menace of adulteration.
According to report, the enforcement staff of DFCO during the first day of the drive lifted 65 samples of milk and milk products and sent them to food testing laboratories for analysis.
Health Minister Bali Bhagat said that the DFCO officers were asked to lay check points at Bhagwati Nagar Bridge, Canal Head, Main Road Barnai, Purmandal Morh, Purmandal, Kishtwar Bus Stand, Kuleed Chowk, Barnai, Dessa Road, Doda, Bharat Road, Main Market, Jarari Morh, Shanti Nagar, Shaheedi Chowk at Kathua, Cafeteria Morh, Boli Bazaar at Udhampur, Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge, Poonch, Reasi bazaar and in Kashmir Division, Shaltangh, Parimpora, Bagh-I-Mehtaab, Nagbal, Shree Sangrama, Daar Gali, Sogam Road, Khanbal, Wanpoh and Alo Chowk, Galandhar.
The milk vendors have been directed to desist from unethical practices and adopt good trade practices, failing which strict action as per rules shall be initiated against them.
DFCO has also asked the general public to provide vital information and inputs regarding such unscrupulous elements who are involved in adulteration of milk and milk products. Designated Officer and Food Safety officers posted at District and Block Levels have been directed to deal such defaulting vendors with iron hands.
