When democracy leads to crisis

Dear Editor,
Democratic setup is what people of different nations aspire for. Nowadays the common will of this great majority has been realized. In a broader sense the common masses are right and their aspirations are good. If people want a fair trial of everything happening around, they need to live in a democracy. We should appreciate it from the core of our heart.
Every person whosoever has a right to express his views or what he feels, I think that is a common ground about which everyone of us should feel harmonious. This type of thinking is the soul of democracy. But the best part of it would have been if a huge chunk of people could understand a little bit about their duties. In our nation there is an irony, people know a lot about their rights but it seems that they are not acquainted with the term duties.
A large chunk of people without understanding their responsibilities are demanding the unusual. Long back in 90’s, the reservation ( quota) system was initiated. At that time feeling the aspirations of a large majority of people it might have been acceptable to some extent. Within the passage of time the system started spreading its wings and more and more people roped themselves in the reservation (quota) system.
Now a serious question arises, does everyone fit in this system? Or should it be limited to particular sect of people? A simple answer that comes in our mind is that a quota be granted for people who are downtrodden and economically backward.
So, in my opinion reservation is good only for those who require it badly. A shortcoming in democracy is that everyone can shout, raise slogans and disrupt the whole scenario, creating hurdles for common masses and the entire nation. This makes the functioning of the state defective and jeopardizes the unity, integrity and harmony among the different sects of people. In this sense democracy leads to crises and creates chaos.
My urge to the readers is “don’t get involved in such type of actions and refrain from such acts”. All this will help in smooth functioning of the state or nation and help the nation grow at a steady pace. Peace and cooperation among the people of a state make it stronger; division among the masses makes it weaker. Let us follow the old proverb “Union is strength”.
