JAMMU: Police and protesters clashed as many students took to the road to block Tawi Bridge on Monday against J and K State Board of Technical Education demanding the continuation of polytechnic students whose answer scripts were lost due to floods.
Police tried to push back protesters who stormed the Government Polytechnic and tried to open main gate to block Jammu-Pathankote Road.
Police resorted to lathicharge on protesting students resulting in causing injuries to many. Later police also arrested them.
Speaking to the protesting students, State President NSUI, Neeraj Kundan said that NSUI had been protesting for last five days and also submitted the memorandum for which the board agreed and promised to promote the students whose answer scripts were lost in the flood.
He also added that it is very unfortunate that now the board is not doing what was agreed by it earlier.
He further added that NSUI will intensify the protest if the demands are not agreed by the administration.
Condemned the lathicharge, he said that this will not stop them from fighting for the rights of the students.
Others NSUI activists who spoke on the occasion included Avijyot Singh, Ranjodh Singh and Sunny Parihar.
