JAMMU: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) President, Subash Shastri urged upon the Prime Minister to declare two most important festivals of Karva Chauth and Bhai Dooj as national holidays for women employees working in Central/State Government departments under Negotiable Instrument Act.
In a memorandum sent to Narendra Modi, Shastri said these festivals not only have a deep rooted cultural significance, but also symbols of women empowerment.
Pleading the cause of employees of the State Government/pensioners and 61,000 daily-rated workers working in various departments of the Government, Shastri urged Prime Minister to immediately grant Rs 9,000 crore of special budgetary package to ward off expenditure on regularisation of nearly 61,000 daily-rated workers working in various departments of the J&K State and also implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission (PC) report in the State.
Shastri pointed out that about 60 per cent of the total population of the State connected with the salaried class, pensioners and daily-rated workers and their long pending issues requires redressal without any delay.
