VIJAYPUR: Former Minister and senior Congress Manjit Singh on Saturday appealed to the government to declare heavy rains causing destruction as natural calamity.
The senior Congress leader visited flood affected villages like Nandpur, Khanpur, Shiv Nagar, Brota, Kamor Camp, Koulpur, Ratanpur and Nanga where he interacted with the people.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, the heavy rains have damaged crops and many houses in border villages have been damaged due to flood in the Basanter River adding that the government should provide tents and proper shelters to the homeless farmers who have lost their houses and provide them compensation.
“The poor people have been left at the mercy of Almighty with no arrangement of fodder for their cattle,” he said, adding the government should provide free of cost fodder for the cattle to the villagers. He said that flood has caused soil erosion on thousands of acres of land.
