POONCH: The Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Nisar Ahmed Wani interacted with local media persons of district .
Present in the meeting were Additional District Development Commissioner, Arvind Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Shafiq Ahmed Choudhary, District Information Officer, Waqar Talib besides correspondents of print and electronic media of various other national and State media organisations and local cable operators. Highlighting the importance of media in a democracy, the DC asked the media persons to perform their role diligently and contribute towards the socio-economic development of the district. Seeking their cooperation in taking the developmental process forward, Wani asked them to hold fast to the basic principles of journalism and avoid indulgence in yellow journalism. He asked them to cooperate with the district administration in dissemination of information regarding various achievements of the district administration adding further that constructive criticism from any quarter including the media is welcome.
The media persons apprised the Deputy Commissioner about issues facing the media fraternity as well as the district. The Deputy Commissioner assured complete cooperation from administration adding that the role of fourth pillar of democracy has assumed greater importance and has to be facilitated.
In reply to the query by the media persons regarding public problem due to non-repair of Sher-i-Kashmir Bridge as also the Poon-Mandi Road in view of the forthcoming Budha Amarnath Yatra, he assured that his maximum concentration will remain towards these two projects.
