DC receives Governance Award at New Delhi

KATHUA: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary received Governance Award 2014 at New Delhi in a ceremony organised at Civil Services Officers Institute. Minister of State for External Affairs Gen. V.K Singh presented the award and citation. The award for Silver Medal in Exceptional Contribution category comprised of cash prize, citation, a scroll and certificate of merit.
Dr Shahid Iqbal was among eight senior officers drawn from across the country for their exceptional and excellent contribution in various fields of governance. Amitabh Kumar (IRS 1987) bagged Gold Medal, Dr Shrikar Pardeshi (IAS 2001) Broze Medal and K.N Kumar (IAS 1987) received second bronze medal in the order of merit. Meanwhile four other awards were given under The Excellent Contribution received by Pratibha Singh (IFoS 1994) K.M Abraham (IAS 1982) Rinkesh Roy (IRTS 1988) and Balvinder Kumar (IAS 1982)
General Singh in his address emphasised on decision making and implementation. He called upon civil servants to replicate this leadership and motivation in all fields. Citing decision-making as most important tenet of civil services he emphasised on effective service delivery mechanism at grass roots level.
In his acceptance speech Dr Iqbal dedicated the award to the team of district administration Reasi for their extraordinary efforts, leadership of team members and people of the district for becoming stakeholders in administrative efforts. He recounted the team work in construction of foot bridges, improving livelihood, construction of schools and electoral process to mention few.
Cabinet Secretary, Secretaries to Government of India, Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Former Governors and senior officers attended the award ceremony.
