POONCH: Annual Summer Volleyball 21-day Coaching camp by Shaheed DySP Manjit Singh Memorial Volleyball Club Poonch, involving 60 young spikers from the town, got underway at Government Degree College ground, here.
The camp was opened by Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yaseen Mohd Choudhary amidst interaction with the participants and members of the host Club.
The Chief Guest on the occasion, Yaseen Mohd also felicitated Payal Sharma for her selection in the India camp. He termed her (Payal) selection as something big for the sports in J&K.
“Producing two genuine talented volleyball players, Saqlain Tariq and Payal Sharma from a remote district is not something done overnight. It is the outcome of years of hardwork and dedicated efforts from Mohd Tariq, who single handily turned his dream into reality by producing the India stuff,” said the DC Poonch while appreciating the efforts of Shaheed Manjit Club. The visiting district head assured of developing the indoor playing facility for the game within the College campus as a token of gesture for Club’s contributions for the game of Volleyball.
The DC Poonch announced complete sports kit for entire lot of boys and girls attending the 21-day coaching camp as mark of respect to achievement of young Payal Sharma.
Earlier, a number of prominent persons of the town also spoke on the occasion and expressed their views. Among the prominent present were Pardeep Khanna, social activist; Rajinder Singh Khajuria (advocate), Sanjay Raina (advocate), Iftekhar Ahmed Bazmi (advocate) and Mool Raj (DYSSO Poonch).
Later, Mohd Tariq, chairman of the organising committee of the Coaching camp expressed gratitude to the DC Poonch for the support and encouragement.
