DBPS pays tributes to Major Somnath

DBPS members paying tributes to Major Somnath Sharma.

JAMMU: Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha (DBPS) paid rich tributes to Major Somnath Sharma, PVC, an Indian Army officer, who was the first recipient of Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military decoration, on his 95th birth anniversary at a function held at Brahman Sabha, Parade.
In this regard, a function was organised under the chairmanship of Ved Parkash Sharma.
Large number of people from different walks of life participated in the function.
While speaking on the occasion, the speakers highlighted the role of Major Somnath Sharma, who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar Airport from the attack of Kabailis with the collaboration of Pak Army on November 3, 1947, by virtue of his action the Pakistani forces were flushed out up by the Indian Army beyond Uri but the then government unilaterally announced the ceasefire.
Chander Mohan Sharma, Tawi Andolan Convener who was the Chief Guest, also paid rich tributes to Major Shaheed Somnath Sharma.
In a resolution adopted on the occasion DBPS expressed serious concern on the registering of FIR against the brave army personel by the local administration at Shopian and unanimously condemned the same and demanded withdrawal of FIR immediately. It has also been resolved that strick action against stone palters should be taken by registering FIR against them.
Among others who were also present include Pt. Varinder Mohan Magotra, Nanak Chand Sharma, Advocate P.C Sharma, Subash Shastri, Jagan Nath Sharma, M.L Sharma, K.L Sharma, Pt. Somnath Sharma, Dr. Som Dutt Magotra, Surinder Sharma, Satpal Sharma, Gurdas Sharma, Girdhari Lal Sharma, Shiv Ram Sharma, Ramesh Sharma and Satpal Raina.
