STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: A Division Bench (DB) of J&K State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan on Thursday disposed off the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the concerned for appointment of Chairman and members of State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).
The DB was hearing a PIL filed by an NGO ‘Voice of Rights’, seeking directions to the concerned to appoint Chairman and members of SHRC which is lying headless since October, 2011. The petition further sought directions for establishment of sub-offices of SHRC in all districts of the state, as per J&K Protection of Human Rights Act.
The DB, after hearing Senior Additional Advocate General Seema Shekhar appearing for the State, observed that the Chairman and members of SHRC have already been appointed therefore, the aforesaid prayer was rendered infructuous.
The DB further observed that as the prayer for opening of sub-offices of SHRC goes, if the petitioner is interested in pursuing the matter further, the petitioner can approach the state government for this purpose.
