DB directs SSRB to pay Rs 40,000 as compensation in two cases

JAMMU: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur in two different cases directed Service Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) to pay compensation of Rs 40,000 each to the petitioners.
These significant directions have been passed in two different contempt petitions filed by Ranu Kumari Bhat and Pamposh Kumari Pandita for non-compliance of the directions dated 31st December, 2007 upheld by the Division Bench vide judgment dated 10thDecember, 2010 passed in Special Leave Petition preferred against the judgment of the Division Bench before the Supreme Court also stands dismissed on 12th August, 2011 regarding appointments of the petitioners for the post of teachers.
Division Bench observed that when the matter was listed on 8th June, 2015, learned counsel appearing for respondent sought time to report compliance and the matter was directed to be posted on 10th June, 2015, when this matter again listed, the counsel appearing for the Board seeks further time to comply with the directions of this Court.
Division Bench after considering the said submission granted two weeks’ time to report compliance and for the delay in implementing the order of this Court for the past over four years when the matter was concluded by the Supreme Court, the respondent is directed to pay compensation of Rs. 10,000 for each year totaling an amount of Rs. 40,000 in each case i.e. 80,000. The said amount is to be paid to the petitioners along with order to be passed in compliance to the order passed by this Court. JNF
