Dear Editor,
In the time when J and K struck with its worst ever natural fury, again State Govt is planning to execute the unprofitable and unfruitful practice of Darbar Move the tradition of which had been started during Dogra rule in 1872 by Maharaja Ranbir Singh to create access to the seat of power for the people of both the regions. But now the scenario has changed and today this practice has been one of the reasons that made State’s exchequer to grapple with resources.Wastage of more than Rs 150 crore on the biannual excercise of shifting the Secretariat, strain on files, move of 7,000 employees and so is not a wise practice in the 21st Century. The Darbar Move not only stops the Secretariat work for at least one month but also may cause misalignment due to strain on files. In order to save crores of rupees being spent on move allowance, transportation,TA/DA, house rent, working days of Secretariat employees and convinience of general public a proper decision needs to be taken in this regard at least for the sake of flood victims.
