Damaged transformers compound people’s miseries, residents protest

BHADARWAH: The increasing power cuts coupled with inability of the Power Development Department (PDD) to repair the damaged transformers in various parts of the Chenab Valley has made life miserable for the people in view of the peaking winters.
Although, protests are being held across the Chenab Valley especially in Bhadarwah Constituency on almost daily basis, but the PDD has expressed its helplessness in repairing the damaged transformers citing shortage of funds.
Sources informed that the damaged transformers have been lying for months together in the government workshop and are not being repaired due to paucity of funds.
In this regard, the residents of Chaka village of Bhadarwah area on Saturday also staged a protest against the failure of the Power Development Department (PDD) to replace the damaged transformers of the area despite a lapse of more than 10 days .
The protesters warned that they will intensify their agitation and come on roads if the transformers of their area are not replaced within few days.
Large number of residents of Chaka village including Khursheed Ahmed , Mohd Iqbal Lone , Sadiq Ali Kelu , Shah Nawaz and others , assembled on main Doda Bhaderwah road near their village and blocked the road , and also raised slogans against the PDD. Meanwhile SHO Bhadarwah rushed to the spot and pacified the agitated people and after that they disperse peacefully
