JAMMU: As there is no respite from the heat wave, the winter capital of the state is reeling under acute power shortage thus forcing people to go for fresh purchase of inverters and batteries for running electrical gadgets like fans and coolers to get some respite from the scorching heat. This was stated by former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla while addressing deputations from Govindpur, Chatha Pind, Roop Nagar, Digiana and Sujwan in Gandhi Nagar constituency on Tuesday.
“The power situation in Jammu has gone bad to worse as nearly 20 to 30 transformers get damage everyday and the workshop of the PDD is out of order as a part of the machinery is damaged. The PDD has the only option to get their damaged transformers repaired from the Small Scale Industries Association (SSIA), which has been overburdened,” he said. There are massive public protests at least daily these days in Jammu city and other towns but the public representatives and even the Minister for Power Dr Nirmal Singh, who hails from Jammu is apparently least bothered about the miseries of the public Bhalla said adding that the new government has also stopped the tradition of summer and winter Secretariat at Jammu and Srinagar respectively to attend the public grievances.
