Daljit inaugurates World Soil Day programme

JAMMU: Daljit Singh, Vice Chairman Jammu and Kashmir State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans inaugurated World Soil Day programme here on Tuesday.
The programme was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jammu, in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfares which was attended by more than 300 farmers.
On the occasion Dr Gagan Bhagat, MLA RS Pura was the Guest of Honour. Daljit Singh along with the participants took pledge to work for improving soil health.
Speaking on the occasion, Daljit Singh informed that World Soil Day programme is being organised in each district of the country with a view to impart awareness about soil health among farmers.
Acknowledging the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in bringing the latest agricultural technologies at doorsteps of the farmers, he suggested enhancing activities in villages for mobilisation of farmers towards indiscriminate exploitation of soil. He highlighted the achievements and efforts of Central Government to enhance the standard of living of farmers by way of introduction of useful schemes.
Dr Gagan Bhagat, in his address, informed that the Soil Health Card Scheme sponsored by Union Government is being launched for farmers to achieve higher production and income in sustainable manner. He suggested that today’s farmer must be equipped with latest technologies and he should become an entrepreneur rather than being dependent on existing resources.
Susheel Sahani, Director Enforcement Jammu and Kashmir Government, and nodal officer soil health card scheme highlighted the efforts done by his department for Soil Health Card Scheme.
Prof R.K Arora, Associate Director Extension and Incharge KVKs put light on the activities of KVKs under SKUAST Jammu.
Dr Vikas Tandon, Senior Scientist and Head KVK R S Pura, Jammu presented vote of thanks.
On the occasion, more than one hundred farmers were distributed soil health cards. A documentary dedicated to soil health management was also shown. The programme was coordinated by Dr Punit Choudhary, Dr Rakesh Sharma and Dr Sheetal Badyal of KVK R S Pura.
The function was attended by Naresh Dubey, CAO Jammu, Mukesh Khajuria Sub-Division Agriculture Officer R.S Pura, Ashwani Kotwal Assistant Soil Chemist and Neeraj Rajwal Research Assistant.
