JAMMU: The Central University of Jammu celebrated National Tourism Day on Thursday. To commemorate this occasion, the Department of Tourism and Travel Management, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, organized a distinguished lecture and cultural event centered around the theme of “Sustainable Journeys and Timeless Memories.”
The event began with the lighting of the lamp by former Chairman of the Pollution Control Board and WWF India, Dr. C. M. Seth, Chief Guest of the event.
Dr. Ranjeet Kumar Raman, the Head of the Department, gave the formal welcome address. Prof. Jaya Bhasin, the Dean of the School of Business Studies, introduced the theme of the National Tourism Day emphasizing its relevance in the contemporary context.
Dr. Seth, currently serving as a Member of the Wildlife Board and Biodiversity Council, in his lecture covered various aspects of destination sustainability, offering practical solutions to address challenges in sustainable development.
He underscored the significance of thematic tourism circuit development and shared personal experiences from global travels to illustrate the importance and role of creating timeless memories.
The program also featured cultural performances by students from the department and felicitation of the students receiving prizes in the poster-making competition.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Bharti Gupta, Assistant Professor in the Department of Tourism and Travel Management. Faculty members including Dr. Mahendra Singh, Dr. Amit Gangotia, Rahul Thakur, Biswabhushan Pradhan, and faculty from the various departments graced the occasion. Sumiran Maheshwari, the research scholar, served as the master of ceremony for the event.
