NEW DELHI: In a crucial rejig ahead of 2024 general elections, Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday announced a cohesive team to steer the world’s largest political party to third successive term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJP announced appointment of 13 vice presidents, nine general secretaries and nine secretaries after an exhaustive meeting presided over by the party president J.P Nadda. Importantly, Tarun Chugh was retained and reappointed as the General Secretary, which is seen as a record of sorts, given the fact that since the inception of the BJP, none of the party leaders from Punjab has made to the coveted position at the national level.
The BJP picked politically sagacious and dynamic Tarun Chugh of the renowned Taksali family of Amritsar to hold the important organizational position as National General Secretary in 2021 in view of his track political record in various capacities. He is the first son of soil from Punjab to have risen as National General Secretary of the BJP, which is a record. Whosoever acquired any organizational position in the BJP from Punjab at the national level has never got extension or elevation. Tarun Chugh is the first national level functionary who served the party at the apex level four times and is credited to be National General Secretary for the successive second term.
An able strategist, politician with qualities of head and heart, having immense managerial and organizational skills with unmatched political far-sight, the role of Tarun Chugh behind the scenes has all along been appreciated by the top BJP leadership, which is why younger generations of the party always seek guidance from him on important policy matters and issues of public importance.
The journey of Tarun Chugh from the booth level Karyakarta to the National General Secretary has been inspiring and envious. Coming from the traditional Punjabi family, having deep association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, he worked tirelessly for public welfare as a Swayamsevak. He led the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad from college to district level and then at the state level with grit and determination. He is credited to have been among the top and firebrand ABVP leaders across the country. His full time devotion to BJP, the world’s largest democratic political party, has been acknowledged by one and all.
On his rise in the BJP and being reappointed as National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh has been greeted by the Karykartas and the people overwhelmingly.
Apart from playing an important role in the national politics, Tarun Chugh is National General Secretary incharge of Jammu and Kashmir. He has been holding the fort in this part of the country with a clear vision of transforming the Union Territory as per the cherished agenda of Prime Minister Modi. Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed huge turn-around in the situation due to much needed political interventions for galvanizing the system as per the aspirations of the people and vision of the Prime Minister. Credit for close coordination with the party goes to Tarun Chugh, who keeps shuttling in the length and breadth of the Union Territory to strengthen the BJP and make a rapport with people at large.
