CRPF pays tribute to martyrs of Anantnag militant attack

Srinagar: CRPF today bid a tearful adieu to their two colleagues who were killed in a militant attack in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A wreath laying ceremony was held at Humhama Regimental Centre of the CRPF to pay tributes to Assistant Sub Inspector Omkar Nath Singh and Constable Trilok Singh, who were killed near Sangam on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway yesterday.

Senior officers led by Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar and Inspector General of CRPF Atul Karwal were in attendance at the ceremony where the two laid floral wreaths on the coffins carrying bodies of the slain jawans.

Referring to yesterday’s episode, Karwal said there were lessons to be learnt from the incident and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be better prepared in future to deal with such incidents.

“We learn from such incidents and we come up better prepared to handle them,” he said.

Asked if the rise in militant attacks in south Kashmir was a cause of worry for security forces in Kashmir, Karwal said the agencies had anticipated the trend in view of intelligence inputs.

“Preparations are afoot to meet such challenges,” he said.

The IG CRPF paid homage to the slain cops saying it was a loss to the nation, the force and their families.

“It is a very sad and unfortunate incident. It is a loss to the nation, to the force and families. Families have our support in this hour of grief. We are determined not to allow the morale of the forces to go down,” he said.

Militants had yesterday targeted a CRPF party in South Kashmir killing two personnel in Anantnag district on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and fled with their weapons.
