Cousin arrested for murder in Anantnag

Srinagar: A juvenile was arrested for allegedly murdering his cousin in south Kashmir’s Anantnag District last week, police said here on Friday.
“Police has solved the murder mystery of a teenager who was found dead in Mattan area. The cousin of the deceased who was involved in the murder has been shifted to Juvenile Home, Srinagar,” a police spokesman said.
He said the police recovered the body of the teenager, a resident of Nagam Kokernag on 17th December. The deceased was putting up with his aunt at Matipore Mattan.
Police registered a case and investigation was taken up, the spokesman said, adding after completing all medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to his relatives for last rites.
Special teams were formed to explore all possible angles of the murder.
During the investigation, several suspects were thoroughly questioned and it surfaced that on the fateful day, in the afternoon the deceased had left his aunt’s house along with his 14-year-old cousin, a resident of Matipore.
While playing, the two had an altercation and the victim was hit with a stone on the head and he fell to the ground, hitting a rock which resulted in his death, the spokesman said.
Sensing trouble, the accused left the body in a nearby nursery and returned home alone. He was arrested and shifted to Juvenile Home in Srinagar, the spokesman added. (PTI)
