SRINAGAR: A police officer was killed by terrorists in Padgampora village in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Monday evening.
Terrorists opened fire on head constable Ashiq Hussain of Awantipora police station when he was on his way home near Padgampora, police said.
Hussain was critically injured in the firing and succumbed to his injuries. Security forces rushed to the site of the attack and launched a manhunt for the assailants, police said.
In Baramulla, two policemen were injured in a grenade attack at Juhama.
A joint team of police and army had set up a check post at Juhama. “A motorcycle approached and on seeing the post, turned around,” a police officer said. On being ordered to halt, one of the terrorists hurled a grenade at the security personnel. Two policemen received minor injuries. “Both the injured were hospitalized,” he said. Following the attack, the entire area has been cordoned off with additional reinforcements to capture the militants. Police have registered a case and launched a probe, he said.
