POONCH: The distribution of relief material in the border district of Poonch which has been devastated by the recent unprecedented incessant rains, flash floods and resulting landslides causing immeasurable loss of private property is underway and the coordination between the NGOs and the District Administration has accelerated the process of distribution of relief material amongst the affected families.
In a widely appreciated decision, the Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Hussain Malik has constituted four Tehsil/Sub-Division level committees headed by Sub-Divisional Magistrates at Mendhar and Surankote and CEO, PDA and Dy. Director, Employment at Haveli and Mandi respectively having concerned Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar, Tehsil Supply Officer, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer and one representative from Police Department as member. These committees have been tasked with the responsibility to identify the affected families and to decide the quantum of material to be given to them.
Apart from the assistance from government, relief material received from several State and national level Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other agencies like Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu, Shiv Shakti Sewa Mandal Budhlada Mansa, Punjab, AICP Dehli, 25 RR Madras etc in the form of tents, blankets, mattresses, shelter kits, kitchen kits, tarpaulin and various other items of daily use is being distributed as per the recommendations of the Sub-Divisional/Tehsil level committees. As of today 647 tents, 1,893 blankets, 1,183 mattresses besides, other items of daily use like water kits, hygienic kits, dry ration kits, towels, buckets etc have been issued for distribution amongst the affected families.
The Deputy Commissioner who is closely monitoring and coordinating relief work in the district had earlier appealed to all the NGOs who intend to contribute in the relief efforts of the district administration to provide the same through district administration or consult the administration to avoid any confusion and ensure that only required material is brought for distribution among the affected families in various areas in coordinated manner.
Malik has impressed upon the officers/officials charged with the responsibility of assessment and distribution of relief to ensure that there is no lacunae in the entire process. Moreover, a control room has been set up in the office of the Deputy Commissioner for redressal of grievances pertaining to the distribution of relief material to the affected families.
