Cooperatives record Rs. 33 cr turnover

ANANTNAG: In connection with 61st All India Cooperative Week being celebrated from November 14 to 20, 2014 all over the country, Cooperative Week was also celebrated in Anantnag also likewise other parts of the State. The Cooperative Department Anantnag in collaboration with Central Cooperative Bank Anantnag organised a function at Town Hall Anantnag which was attended by a good number of people. The members of six Cooperative Marketing Societies of Kokernag, Achhal, Dooru, Shangus, Qazigund, Dachnipora and Khoveripora were also present on the occasion besides officers from Cooperative Department and Cooperative Bank.
While addressing the gathering, the Deputy Registrar Cooperative made aware the participants about the importance and existence of the cooperative movement. He also highlighted the role and importance for providing necessities to the common masses and informed that 55 Cooperative Societies are presently functional under Cooperative Act, 1989 and 300 employees are associated with these Societies.
The department recorded turnover of Rs. 273.81 lakh from the sale of medicines, Rs. 247.70 lakh from sale of consumer goods, Rs. 47.15 lakh from the sale of poultry birds, Rs. 25.33 lakh from dairy sale, Rs. 16.41 lakh from the sale of sheep on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, besides Rs. 453.52 lakh from the sale of different fertilizers. As many as 1,094 Kissan Credit Cards were also distributed among the farmers and provided advances to the tune of Rs. 453.10 lakh.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag who was the Chief Guest on the occasion emphasized upon the Cooperative Department to take the measures to give the movement its earlier shape so that the aim of the cooperative movement is achieved. He also directed the department to have close liaison with the field agencies to enable and provide purchasing power to the common man.
Among others, the Project Director IWDP Anantnag, General Manager Super Bazar Anantnag, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Anantnag, Deputy Director Sericulture and officers from Cooperative Department and Cooperative Bank Anantnag were also present on the occasion.
