JAMMU: Congress on Friday held a protest rally here against the non-availability of ration and kerosene oil in Jammu city and its outskirts.
Led by Thakur Manmohan Singh, General Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, over 300 to 400 Congress workers took out a protest rally over the issue in Gurah Morh-Bakshinagar area.
Holding placards, banners and party flags in their hands, the Congress workers marched through Shaktinagar Bazaar raising slogans against the government.
Speaking to reporters here, Singh alleged that the government is not supplying adequate ration and kerosene oil to people and is acting like a mute spectator.
Terming the situation as unfortunate, Singh urged upon the state government to take immediate steps to provide adequate quantity of ration and kerosene oil.
He also demanded that the process of bifurcation of ration cards as well as addition of members in the old ration cards should be taken up immediately.
In another protest, Congress members led by former minister and MLA Banihal Vikar Rasool Wani, today blocked the J and K Highway and held a protest over the non-availability of teaching and medical staff in local schools and hospitals.
They also protested over the issue of setting up higher secondary schools and administrative units of Banihal which were sanctioned under previous government in Ramban district.
After Friday prayers, the Congress workers raised slogans against the incumbent coalition government and took out a protest march to Sub Divisional Magistrate’s office.
They submitted a charter of public demands to SDM Banihal which included the issues of deteriorating conditions on National Highway and revoking the orders of employment policy framed by the present government.
Wani alleged that the government has targeted and neglected Banihal constituency.
