JAMMU: Congress has resented the state Election commission decision to debar the elected Sarpanches/panches from being the counting agents and termed it unjustified. Reacting to the decision, JKPCC questioned the rationale behind such a decision and termed as insult to the elected institutions and putting unreasonable curbs on the rights of elected representatives.
These people are getting honorarium but that doesn’t make them government employee but yes they are public servants. They are being denied a valueable political right and from performance of the assignment of their choice, which their right in a democracy. The elected representatives can’t be treated like this in a democracy and asked the election commission to justify it’s decision lest withdraw it immediately. The commission should have consulted the political parties and representatives of PRIs before taking such decisions.
