JAMMU: State Congress unit on Friday staged protest against the government for hike in prices of ration and other essential commodities.
Led by PCC General Secretaries Vikram Malhotra and Th. Manmohan Singh, the Congress workers assembled at Chowk Chabutra Jammu and raised slogans the government. Later they also took out a protest rally passing through Parade and culminated at Purani Mandi.
Addressing the protestors, Singh alleged that PDP-BJP has failed to come to the expectations of the people in the State. He said that J and K is passing through the worst ever period since independence. If there is anything described as bad governance, the people of J and K had experienced it ‘and enough of it’ in the last four months, he added.
Singh said that the price of Atta has been suddenly raised by Rs. 5 per Kg and price of rice by Rs. 3 per Kg which leads pressure on the poor people who were already fighting the menace of inflation.
“The recent demonetization has broken the back of the State and the nation. There is sense of chaos all around and this ill prepared and ill timed move has left the common man in a lurch,” he added.
Making a scathing attack on PDP and BJP, Singh said that PDP is the party which only banks on Kashmir while BJP who claims to be champion of Jammu, as both the parties have failed to come to the expectations of people of their respective regions and ultimately the people of whole state are suffering. He said that the people of the state are already suffering a lot due to continuous border firing and prolong Bandhs in Kashmir region and increasing prices of ration at this juncture is a severe blow on common man.
Singh asked the party workers to go to the people at grass root level, hear their problems and bring these people’s problems to the notice of party leadership which would be highlighted at all levels.
