Youth Congress members led by its Barpeta district unit president Santanu Sarma and working president Azad Hussain blocked NH 31 at Kaljhar and accused the Narendra Modi government at the Centre of following an anti farmer policy affecting agriculturists of the country.
The agitators alleged that because of the government’s “anti farmer policy” five of the thousands of farmers who came out to protest in Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh yesterday had to lose their life.
Farmers in MP have been protesting since June 1 demanding a higher minimum support price (MSP) for their produce amongst other issues.
However, the situation escalated on Tuesday when five people were killed in police firing at Mandsaur leading to the clamping of curfew.
