Concern over rise in lung cancer cases

JAMMU: J&K Centre for Environmental Studies, Press Club of Jammu, has expressed serious concern over growing lung cancer cases in Jammu and Kashmir. The Centre has urged upon the state government to take immediate steps to check such cases.
On occasion of World Environment Day, Ashwani Kumar, Chairman of J&K Centre for Environmental Studies, Press Club of Jammu said that World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on June 4 to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. He said that the program is run by the United Nations Environment Programme. Quoting the recent report prepared by Jammu and Kashmir Health Department, which was tabled in State Legislative Council, Ashwani Kumar said that Srinagar tops in lung cancer cases list, while Jammu is on second number. “898 lung cancer patients were registered in Srinagar last year, while Jammu seconding the list with 853 lung cancer patients last year due to smoking “, he added. He urged the government to impose this ban strictly and also keep a check on growing traffic and environmental pollution.
