Community radios become a powerful means of information and entertainment in an area of 10 to 15 kilometers, while they have proven to be most useful in disaster situations. Louis Hill, a famous journalist on the West Coast, had initiated this type of special radio broadcast. According to another information, community radio broadcasting was started from California on April 15, 1949. Community radio broadcasting in India began about three decades ago. In 1995, the Supreme Court ruled that ‘radio waves are public property.’ After this decision, formal broadcasting of community radio started.
