Cold wave tightens grip over Kashmir division

Srinagar, Nov 26 (PTI) Cold wave tightened its grip over Kashmir division after a day’s respite as the minimum temperature across the Valley dipped below the freezing point, with Leh, in Ladakh region, being the coldest place in the state at minus 9.9 degrees Celsius.

Leh, in the frontier region of Ladakh, was the coldest place in the state with the minimum settling at minus 9.9 degrees Celsius, down by over two degrees from minus 7.6 degrees Celsius the previous night.

The night temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, went down by two degrees from the previous night?s 1.4 degrees Celsius to settle at a low of minus 0.8 degree Celsius, a spokesman of the MeT Department here said.

Pahalgam – the base camp for annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir ? registered a slide of over two degrees as the minimum temperature settled at minus 3.8 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s minus 1.3 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg, the famous ski resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 1.0 degree Celsius against last night?s minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius, a drop of over three degrees from yesterday’s 1.3 degrees Celsius.

Qazigund and Kokernag towns in south Kashmir registered the minimum temperatures of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius and minus 0.4 degree Celsius respectively.

Kargil town recorded a low of minus 9.8 degrees Celsius as compared to yesterday’s minus 9.2 degrees Celsius.

The weather continued to remain dry throughout the state, she said.
